Welcome to American Voices
It is shaping up to be a busier than ever summer at American Voices. On the horizon we have summer academy programs in Sudan, Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon as well as upcoming projects in Afghanistan, Barbados, Honduras and more.
| This summer will see a rapid expansion of our youth performing arts education projects from one program in Iraq to four throughout the Middle East and Africa. We estimate we will work with over 1,000 youth people in four countries and reach live and television audiences numbering in the millions. We will also begin to distribute the truckloads of music donated for these programs by Alfred Music Publishers. Please support our efforts to bring these much-needed educational programs to youth in isolated countries. |
In summer of 2008, we organized the second Unity Youth Performing Arts Academy in Iraq which was our fourth project in the country since February 2007. We are proud to report that we worked with over 750 young Iraqi musicians, dancers, actors and filmmakers in 2008. It was great to see our Unity Academy 2007 Alumni again and welcome over 400 new students into our program. Thanks to all of you who participated and to those who supported our program. Please donate to help keep this wonderful outreach program alive.
For more information about the Unity Academies 2007 or 2008, please see our Newsletter or our Projects and Video pages devoted to these very special days spent in Erbil, Suleimaniya and Kirkuk with young artists from throughout the country. You may also view an ABC Nightly News Report on the Unity Academy.
In other news, American Voices is recently returned from a series of sold out Broadway Revues in Minsk, Athens, Ankara, Gaziantep, Adan and Mersin. In March we will tour the Caribbean and Honduras with special concerts to mark the Lincoln Bicentennial. Please check our projects pages for news, photos and video of our most recent activities! You may also enjoy our new YouTube channel with over 150 videos of our concerts and projects around the world.

Since 1992, our mission has been to further the appreciation and understanding of American music and culture, especially in developing countries, countries emerging from conflict or periods of isolation and those lacking opportunities for cultural exchange and dialogue with the United States.

In April, we will begin a special appeal to raise funds for our Unity 2009 summer programs in Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt and Sudan. Please make a pledge and join Friends of American Voices to help further our goal of providing quality cultural exchange, training and inspiration to youth in these countries emerging from conflict or isolation.
