American Voices is proud is the implementing partner for the American Music Abroad program sponsored by the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The American Music Abroad program is designed to communicate America’s rich musical history as it fosters cross-cultural communication and people-to-people connection to global audiences. Any characteristically American musical genres are welcome to apply. These genres include and are certainly not limited to Blues, Bluegrass, Cajun, Country, Folk, Latin, Native American, Gospel, Hip Hop/Urban, Indie Rock, Jazz, Punk, R&B and Zydeco.

In cooperation with the U.S. Department of State, American Voices will arrange a series of 2-week, multi-country cultural exchange programs including public concerts, interactive performances with local traditional musicians, lecture demonstrations, workshops, jam sessions and media interviews and performances.

The groups on the American Music Abroad 2018-2019 program will tour from September 2018 through May 2019. The tours will focus on younger and underserved audiences in more than 40 countries around the world with little or no access to live American musical performances. American Music Abroad ensembles are currently expected to travel in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Central and South America and Eastern Europe. Prior to the respective tours, each ensemble will present a tour kick-off concert in Washington D.C.  We invite you to visit the American Music Abroad website to learn more about the ensembles selected to serve as American cultural ambassadors for the American Music Abroad 2018-2019 season.

The American Music Abroad 2019-2020 application will open November 2018. Please visit the American Music Abroad website for more information on the application process, or email ama@americanvoices.org for more information.
