Jazz improvisation and classical piano workshops in Iraq planned for April
Jazz Improvisation and Classical piano workshops in Iraq are planned for early April 2008. Unity Academy jazz faculty, Dr. Gene Aitken, and American Voices' Executive Director, John Ferguson, will return to Northern Iraq in early April for a series of workshops with alumni of the Unity Academy 2007.
Workshops subjects will cover introduction to jazz improvisation, ensemble playing and 'Jazz Bridges' work with Iraqi folk and pop traditions and jazz. John Ferguson will offer intensive training for pianists and offer musicianship courses for any interested students.
Workshops are currently planned for Erbil and Suleimaniyah with further workshops in Baghdad under consideration.
