Biography

Ruby V, born Vivienne Ruby, is a leading expert in the African/Kenyan Hip Hop culture scene. She is an entertainment and all around arts, culture and lifestyle journalist with 6+ experience working in a fast-paced media house.

Ruby V is also the founder of UnKut Africa, an organization first established in 2016. It’s main focus is to promote and celebrate the various elements of African Hip Hop Culture and the vision is to be the biggest plug in African Hip Hop in relation to concerts, merchandise and fostering Hip Hop collaborations between Kenya and other African Countries.

UnKut Aftrica Milestones

2016 – present: Breathing new life into the new school Hip Hop Culture scene in Kenya

2018: Introduction of UnKut Mental Health KE, whose sole focus is to promote healthy conversations around mental health. The first ever Ball For Health basketball tournament – for mental health – was hosted in November 2018.

2019: UnKut Hip Hop Awards UnKut Africa is the first Kenyan Hip Hop outfit to introduce an all exclusive Hip Hop Award show in Kenya, with over 20 categories. The maiden, self sponsored event was held in 2019 and the subsequent one in 2020, in partnership with Hennessy, Boomplay Music and Mombasa County Government.
